FinTech West Webinar Review & Other Updates

FinTech West Webinar & other updates

On Friday we held a webinar over Zoom with a great mix of speakers including:

During the session there were several really useful updates: Paul Jones gave an excellent overview of the way the British Business Bank works and how it has been supporting businesses through Covid-19; Vicky Hunter explained the recently announced Tech Nation programmes, which include FinTech, Applied AI and Net Zero; we heard the story so far from Jones Oviawe of Money Story, who are a financial wellbeing app based at the Falmouth Launchpad; and Stuart Richards of Batsrock explained how it is building consumer software to help people find the best life insurance products.

We were aware that some had difficulties gaining access – apologies but here’s a link to the recording so you don’t miss anything:

In addition to the points covered in the webinar, here are some additional updates:

Funding

The latest Innovate Finance survey published today shows how FinTechs around the country have concerns over their funding and financial “runway” – you can view the survey here. We’re pleased to say that today we also have FinTech West as an investment group on Invest West to help businesses seeking funding to meet investors and vice versa. It’s free and they take no cut of any money raised. If you want to know more or get involved, click here for more information.

Collaboration

We are running a limited roundtable in July hosted by DAC Beachcroft to start to explore how we can encourage greater collaboration between established financial services firms and FinTechs so if you would like to be involved in either the forthcoming roundtable or future events related to this, please register your interest by getting in touch.

FinTech West is for all the South West

We want to reach out to as many FinTechs and those interested in FinTech across the entire South West. Remote working now and in the future will enable us all to connect and help each other perhaps in ways we’ve yet to realise. We are keen to hear from anyone who wants to connect and get involved, so if you do know of anyone do feel free to pass on our details and suggest they get in touch.
