Secondment Opportunity @ FinTech West

It is an exciting time for FinTech in the South West and we are seeking a new recruit to help us expand and enhance the activities and services we provide to the FinTech community in the region. 

The South West has the second largest regional tech economy by capita in the UK (outside London and South East). The region’s tech sector is worth £11bn, and is estimated to grow by 11.8% annually due to the wide range of prominent and growing sub-sectors, including FinTech.

In the UK’s strategic review of FinTech (the Kalifa Review, published 2021), Bristol & Bath was highlighted as one of the top 10 FinTech clusters. A previous report by Whitecap Consulting found the region to have one of the strongest FinTech ecosystems in the UK with a high number of fast-growing FinTech startups and scaleups

FinTech West

FinTech West is at the heart of the region’s activity, and facilitates collaboration and growth in the South West FinTech ecosystem, with the aim of helping it develop into an internationally recognised cluster.

We represent the interests of multiple stakeholders in the regional FinTech ecosystem, working towards four key objectives:

1. Connect and inform the FinTech community in the South West

2. Promote the South West as a FinTech centre of excellence and help develop the sector

3. Help generate regional economic benefit by creating market opportunities for FinTech

4. Align to the development of the national FinTech sector

FinTech West has evolved considerably over recent years and we have ambitious plans for enhancing the way we support, promote and help grow the FinTech sector in the South West. We are a private sector initiative and rely on sponsorship and support from key players in the regional and national FinTech sector in order to be able to deliver our activity and initiatives.

The opportunity

As we have evolved, the job of running FinTech West has grown and will continue to do so.

Consequently, we’re now looking for someone to join us to help support our marketing and events activity for 3-6 months, a role we feel is ideally suited to a secondment.

We think this would be a great role for an up and coming marketer who would benefit from the experience of:

• Helping grow our FinTech community, which already includes more than 1500 people from a wide range of backgrounds, all with an active interest in FinTech

• Working with us to design, develop and deliver a wide range of activities to support and bring together the regional FinTech community

• Learning about FinTech and being part of an exciting and fast growing part of the UK’s tech sector

• Building strong B2B marketing skills by handling a range of marketing communications including web, email, social media and PR

• Designing and delivering in person, virtual and hybrid events including seminars, webinars and a full day conference

• Liaising with key regional stakeholders in the FinTech, Financial Services and Tech sectors

Next steps

As we are still in the early stages of generating the sponsorship funding we need to grow FinTech West, we feel the optimal solution in the short term will be for us to engage someone on a 3-6 month secondment or internship.

We are interested to hear from organisations in the South West who would be interested to work with us by providing support that could help us, either on a full time or part time basis.
