Cyber Security Forum with PwC

On Thursday we were delighted to hold the Cyber Security Forum with PwC UK, hosted in their wonderful “loft” facility.

David Henderson MBA CMgr FCMI Strategic Advisor at Fintech West, kicked off the event thanking everyone involved in the organization of it, especially Katharine Adlard who helped inspire everyone to get the event off the ground plus Gavin Barnes, Ylberina Hysaj, Richard Edwards and Stuart Harrison. David then talked about FinTech West’s work, the cluster and shared some of the forthcoming events.

Dr James Horlock began the series of short presentations, outlining the reasons why they created a Masters Programme at the University of Cardiff, what you need to do to join the program and how it evolved. If anyone would like to join, the programme is still open, and it can be found on the University of Cardiff website.

Another very interesting speaker took the floor in the form of Stuart C. who shared some fascinating insights into Electric Vehicle systems and security. This included some EV security stories as well as how EV charging systems work, their infrastructure and subsequent security loopholes.

Harry Williams provided a highly entertaining session on his perspective around adding value to infrastructure testing and why humans and the human perspective are still so important in an environment with many automated tools.

In the final session, Anastasia Kozlova taught us about “Red Teaming” and how the Ethical Hacking team approach security testing, outlining some interesting case studies and how to obtain the most effective approach.

Overall, a really interesting and interactive event with many new things to consider from different perspectives – all nicely rounded off with some good networking, drinks and food.
